Job Title:  User Experience - Front-end Developer

Duration:  5+ Months

Location:  FORT WORTH, TX

Rate: $50/hr the max

FRONT-END TECHNOLOGIST
DESCRIPTION
As part of the User Experience (UX) team, the Front-end Technologist (FET) will provide direction for the future development of all front-end technologies (CSS, XHTML, DOM, JavaScript, JSP Tiles and Struts, etc.) used on aa.com. Since this position has not existed previously at aa.com, it is essential to have a flexible attitude and excellent communication skills. This person will work closely with business analysts, project managers, UX Leads, graphic designers, and developers.
This person will be responsible for establishing and executing the User Experience FET vision, industry best practices and standards for aa.com user interface development.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Contributing to a culture of innovation and teamwork
Pushing the boundaries of what's possible to create better experiences for our users
Provide direction for standardization on the development of the Presentation Layer/Front End Tier based on best practices and standards (W3C, etc.) for current and/or future development
Create new/modify existing HTML/JSP pages such as Wireframes, HTML Flows, JSP Pages, Style Guide
Engineer front-end delivery for performance and ease of maintenance
Build relationship with development team responsible for new applications and maintenance of existing applications for the American Airlines aa.com site
Documentation and evangelism of aa.com Front-end Technology standards and best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate should have 3+ years working with Creative/User Experience and Technical (development) Teams
Has solid experience designing & building enterprise web applications in a Web 2.0 manner (rich in features, more complex in interactions)
Passion crafting user interfaces and evangelizing the benefits of standards based coding
The ability to take complex software problems and turn them into simple, functional interfaces
Understand the underlying principles for optimum coding practices

Strength in the following skills:
HTML/XHTML (transitional and strict doctypes)
CSS (2.1 and 3)
Javascript (dom scripting, frameworks (Prototype/Scriptaculous), DHTML, AJAX)
Front-end performance engineering
JSP development environment
JSTL (custom tag creation, etc.)
Struts (v1 and 2)
Tiles
Version control software such as Accurev
Cross browser compatibilities issues/browser degradation (IE6 conditional statements, etc.)
Image Production and Optimization (Photoshop, ImageReady, Illustrator), sprites, png, etc.
