Oracle RAC DBA

Location:  Greensboro NC

Duration:  Long Term

 "2nd round onsite interviews required"

 

1.            BASIC PURPOSE:  Give a brief statement of the overall principal purpose or function of this position.

Manage, Monitor, Administer, and Support multiple Oracle database systems.  Oracle RAC on AIX is the primary database; DB2/400 on IBM is secondary.  Provide Infrastructure team support for database configuration, performance, clustering, etc.  Provide non-business-hours database support as required. 

 

2.            NATURE and SCOPE/PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: List the major duties, activities, responsibilities and end results for which this position exists.

o             Complete all tasks assigned by the Database Team Lead as scheduled

o             Perform day-to-day monitoring, management, provisioning, and support of all databases

o             Create database objects

o             Design databases and processes

o             Help resolve RI conflicts and record deadlock problems

o             Execute and monitor data fixes as necessary

o             Participate in Business Recovery tests

o             Communicate effectively with Project Leaders and team members  in IT&S Department

o             Cross train among other DBA team members

o             Act as liaison between external resources and internal resources for database projects.

o             Follow current standard Change Management policies for the department, as well as standards, policies and procedures that are specific to the Database Team.

o             Provide project estimates for Infrastructure DBA skills to project managers.

o             Implement database portions of Infrastructure project plans.

o             CVS change management processes relating to IDA.

o             Manage user accounts for Oracle database servers

o             Manage and monitor Oracle database clustering

o             Monitor daily Oracle backups

o             Monitor Oracle table spaces and data file status for space constraints

o             Monitor Oracle database performance

o             Troubleshoot remote database connections

o             Recover Oracle databases at DR test site

o             Optimize queries for best performance.

o             Coordinate multi-platform promotions.

3.            KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, EXPERIENCE and MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:  State the minimum formal education and years of work experience required to satisfactorily perform the position's duties.  Include specific educational requirements and list any positions, which may lead to this position.

 

•             Four year degree preferred but not required

•             High school diploma required

•             Vendor education coursework or certification a plus

•             At least 3 years experience as a database analyst using Oracle RAC required 

•             Exposure to and/or experience with DB2/400 or other version of DB2 a plus

•             Proficient in the following skills:

o             Installing and configuring Oracle RAC

o             Administration of Oracle RAC

o             Installing upgrades and patches to Oracle RAC

o             Troubleshooting Oracle RAC database performance

o             Understanding database file sizing options and their implications

o             Designing a database to recover and roll back data when needed

o             Troubleshooting database issues using audit logs

o             Writing scripts enabling database process automation, ease of use, etc.

o             Understanding Advanced Data Compression technology

o             Understanding Database Vault technology

o             Working in a multi-tiered application environment

o             Working in an AIX environment

o             Setting up and supporting database connection pooling and load balancing among nodes

o             Setting up and supporting database clustering

o             Setting up and supporting database replication

o             Relational modeling

o             Understanding and using database monitoring tools

o             Understanding and using change management systems

•             Willing to work on all platforms and databases used by United Guaranty

•             Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

•             Experienced in mentoring and cross training

•             Proficient in time management, planning, and organizing

•             Proficient in oral and written communication
