Duration:12+months
Rate:55/hr corp to corp

We are seeking an experienced Java/J2EE developer to join the dynamic Discovery environment and help build and maintain the award winning Discovery.com family of websites

including tlc.com, animalplanet.com, sciencechannel.com, investivationchannel.com, militarychannel.com, and discoverynews.com.  This position will report to the Director of

Interactive Development for Discovery.com and work within a larger development team of other Java, CMS, and web developers.

Must have skills:  
Java 5; JEE technologies
Expertise with Spring, iBatis and Velocity
Oracle or other RDBMS
Rational Application Developer
WebSphere application server
Web technologies:  HTML, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, JQuery, cross-browser compatibility
CVS or SVN source code control
Continuous Integration development
Experience working in an Agile or Scrum team

Key Responsibilities:
All aspects of enterprise application development, including requirements gathering, database architecture, web-tier design, business-tier design, implementation, unit testing,


performance testing, and maintenance
Works with Product Managers, Project Managers, and team leads to estimate a work effort and map requirements to detailed work tasks.  
Work closely with Account Managers, Architecture, and the QA team to help troubleshoot issues and implement bug fixes.
Responsible for ensuring quality of deliverables by working closely with QA, requirements, & design team.
Research, analysis, design, and delivery of Discovery projects.  
Ability to quickly gain an end-to-end understanding of the n-tier technical web architecture in order to effectively identify dependencies and possible risks.  
Suggest and help implement process improvements.
Uses JIRA to track work, provide estimates, and log time
Documents technical approach, designs, operations in Wiki
Verbal and written communication to both technical and non-technical audiences
Other work as assigned

Desired Skills:
Endeca
Linux
Apache configuration
Experience building and installing software, including open source
Strong shell scripting skills
Akamai or other CDN
Content Management Systems (CMS)
Autonomy TeamSite
MySQL server administration
Mobile applications (iOS/Android)

Required Qualifications:
Requires bachelor's degree (in Computer Science or related field).
Eight years of related experience in J2EE development.
